Phenomenon of Deeksha

Oneness founded by Sri Amma Bhagavan seeks to alleviate human suffering at its roots by awakening humanity into oneness, wherein every individual feels connected to all that is. The central understanding of Oneness is that inner transformation and awakening into higher states of consciousness is not an outcome of a mere intellectual understanding but a neurobiological process in the brain, whereby one’s experience of life is redefined at its core. This is achieved by the process of the Oneness Blessing/Oneness Deeksha, which is a process of transfer of divine grace that initiates a journey into higher states of consciousness. The Deeksha is believed to affect the different lobes of the brain, thereby reducing stress levels and intensifying the levels of love, joy and awareness. Millions in India and abroad testify to the calming and awakening effects of the Oneness Deeksha, which is now gaining recognition as by far the easiest and most effective approach to enriching human consciousness.
So what exactly is Deeksha and how does it work?
Tracing back its roots to ancient Vedic Indian tradition, Deeksha was basically a process of a spiritually awakened master initiating a disciple after long years of intense training. The master would actually impart his spiritual wisdom and / or state of consciousness through touch, glance or through a deep intent, better known in Sanskrit as Sparsha Deeksha, Nayana Deeksha or Smarana Deeksha.
This practice of laying on of hands and awakening a disciple to higher states of consciousness is well known in human history, except that such a happening was a very rare event. In both the Vedic and Tibetan Buddhist traditions, the minimum duration prescribed for preparing a disciple before he/she is ready to receive the benediction from the master is usually 12 years during which the disciple is subjected rigorous physical, psychological and spiritual disciplines and ordeals by the master to basically shatter the ego and make him/her vulnerable and open to the divine benediction.
Sri Amma and Sri Bhagavan’s deep passion to awaken humanity as a whole to Oneness has revolutionized this phenomenon of deeksha today.
The Oneness Deeksha or Oneness Blessing as it is referred to in many other parts of the western world is sourced in their divine intent.
And the series of incidents which paved the way for this phenomenon to flow into the world is a very interesting story, humanity could forever cherish.
How it all came to be…
It all began with Sri Bhagavan seeing a mystical golden orb of light standing before His eyes when He was anything between 3 to 5 years of age. Sri Bhagavan was very naturally impelled to incessantly chant a mantra revealed to Him by this Golden Orb of light and each time He uttered the mantra, He used to feel His deep intent to end human suffering being impregnated into this golden ball, thus charging it with his divine state of consciousness. This phenomenon went on without a break for 24 hours of a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year for 18 years thereafter and one day when Sri Bhagavan was about 27 years of age, the Golden Ball suddenly disappeared from his gaze and the chanting process stopped abruptly. Sri Amma too was subjected to a similar process of intense austerity as a child. Neither Sri Bhagavan nor Sri Amma had really any control over the series of mystical happenings and severe austerities they were naturally subjected to in their childhood. All they knew was a deep passion to help humanity awaken into Oneness and they were being impelled to prepare this Golden Ball for their massive mission in the future.
In July 1989 in the Jeevashram school founded by Sri Amma-Bhagavan, the very same Golden Ball of divine grace descended into many students after receiving the deeksha from Sri Krishnaji (Sri Amma Bhagavan’s son). This divine descent unleashed a phenomenon of divine grace and inner transformation in the students that was incomparable with any other spiritual phenomenon of our times.
Many students and parents were swept by this wave of grace and the whole school had suddenly transformed into a heaven on earth, with so many children experiencing a variety of states of consciousness accessible only to the great yogis and saints of yore.
It was this phenomenon that reiterated Sri Amma and Sri Bhagavan’s premonition that the time was ripe for the world to receive this benediction they had been preparing for since their early childhood and thus came into existence the ‘Oneness’, which has ever since touched the lives of millions of individuals through the phenomenon of the Oneness Deeksha.
While Oneness too has its unique teachings and spiritual practices, Sri Amma Bhagavan emphatically declare, ‘any teaching, including those given by us would remain a teaching unless you have a direct experience, which is possible only through divine intervention!’ Thus, the programmes of Oneness are centered on the phenomenon of the Oneness Deeksha/Oneness Blessing, which facilitates this most sought after divine intervention, making every teaching, every spiritual precept he/she has ever followed, into a personal experience.
It is this understanding that sets apart Oneness from many other existing spiritual traditions, which emphasize on intellectual understanding and meditation alone as the path to liberation.
Awakening or enlightenment, according to Oneness is a happening, a benediction bestowed upon us by the divine and not an achievement. This stand of Oneness is supported by the understanding, which is now slowly beginning to gain scientific recognition also, that awakening is a neurobiological shift in the brain and one cannot really cause a shift in his/her brain merely through an intellectual understanding.
Oneness in many regards has a highly scientific approach, quite evident in many of Sri AmmaBhagavan’s teachings and this actually comes as a relief to the many followers of the movement ranging from the younger generation and the intellectual/elite classes, who abhor blind belief and unscientific philosophy at all levels.
The Oneness Deeksha phenomenon also transcends religious and cultural barriers from the fact that it only chooses to awaken each to his/her own spiritual tradition by facilitating a neurobiological shift, thus making religion a matter of personal choice and convenience.
Sri Amma-Bhagavan’s spirituality basically highlights the destructive tendencies of the human mind arising from the sense of separation, thus making spirituality more a passive acceptance of the ‘what is’ than an active strife towards attainment of spiritual values. And in today’s world rampant with destructive tendencies, one would definitely benefit from an awareness of his/her selfish tendencies, which would naturally lead to their dissolution and pave the way for higher values to take birth. Sri Amma Bhagavan have thus reinstated spirituality as a way of life to be lived in every household and have made their unparalleled contribution to human awakening through the Oneness Deeksha.

In 1902, Dr. R. M. Burke wrote a book entitled COSMIC CONSCIOUSNESS. According to Dr. Burke, human evolutionary development consists of three forms of consciousness.
- Simple Consciousness -- instinct
- Self Consciousness -- a self-awareness that an individual is a distinct entity
- Cosmic Consciousness -- a clear conception of the meaning of the universe
Cosmic consciousness, the apex of human evolution, is an absolute certainty that the cosmos is in fact a living presence. It's a complete comprehension of "the whole" with an accompanying sense of immortality.
Carl Jung, the renowned Swiss psychiatrist, coined the term "Collective Unconscious" -- in essence the same ethereal object as Cosmic Consciousness, except most people are unaware of its existence. He believed the Collective Unconscious to be part of the evolutionary process and shared by all people, but not all people are able to tap into it.
Jung called it the foundational structure of the personality on which the ego is built.

Research in this field started 40 years ago when a number of laboratory experiments demonstrated that human consciousness actually interacts with random event generators (REGs), causing them to produce non-random patterns.
In other words, thoughts were found to have the capacity to become actions that altered events.
Since electrical impulses transmitted between brain cells reflect patterns of activity that in turn generate consciousness, it then became a theoretical possibility that the same phenomena would be true for a global collective consciousness of the entire planet. Therefore, if individuals could create deviations from expected chance results simply through the thought process perhaps it could also be true on a global basis.
Dr. Roger Nelson, Director of Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research, a leading parapsychology institute, examined what happened to a REG when several people focused on a single event.
The results were impressive. Plus, the effects were clearly noticeable regardless of the generator's location.
There are now 75 networked computers in over 50 countries worldwide feeding a probabilistically random series of digits to a host computer. The system searches for periods when the random number series become slightly non-random.
Major world events seem to trigger non-randomness in widely isolated global locations. For example, the 9/11 tragedy produced a massive spike of non-randomness in the entire system.
The implications are astonishing.
Each person is an individual entity with a distinct consciousness. But the combined consciousness of all of humanity also appears to be an individual entity.
All is one.
This collective consciousness has been tapped into many times. A mother in Boston senses her son in Phoenix has had an accident that later turns out to be true. A man knows his old Army buddy is about to call him just before the phone rings. A little girl finds her lost purse where a dead grandparent told her it would be. A boy has an urgent feeling about going to a function where he meets his future wife. It happens all the time.
If there truly is such a thing as a collective consciousness, we as a human species are all interconnected in a metaphysical or even spiritual sense. Our individual thoughts affect the collective subconscious of all of mankind.
Thoughts become deeds.
If the human race ever evolves beyond its present state of greed and transgression, our collective consciousness will become a collective benevolence and mankind will flourish.
Until then, the collective consciousness will remain a collective headache.

The choice for Love

Each of us longs to have more love in our lives, fulfilling harmonious relationships, a sense of peace and contentment, and a kinship with all of our brothers and sisters.
We isolate ourselves through our thinking, feeling alienated and alone, not realising that in every moment there is a simple choice to choose love over fear.
Our choosing fear is linked with shame and guilt over our separation from God , and when we start to peel away the layers, like an onion skin, we will gently feel the awareness of Love's Presence. All we need is a willingness to go there, to expose and experience the emotions which bind us.
These deeply rooted beliefs are linked to experiences right back from conception through to early childhood, and other lifetimes. They are not who we really are, which is simply Love.
We are constantly invited to return home to this simple awareness, but we allow our fearful thoughts to dominate, and thus create more of the same in our lives, and so perpetuate our suffering. It is our perception that needs to change, as suffering is not in the experience, but in our perception of it. What are we choosing in every moment? That is the only question we need to ask ourselves.
Living in the awareness of Love is simple with practice, and when we allow its full expression it will sing its song to us. This song will echo through every cell of our bodies, transforming our lives and the way we see ourselves and others. We come to recognise that it is Love which holds all of creation in the palm of its hand.
The the Oneness Experience comes to us now at a time of great opportunity. This beautiful divine energy when received regularly, allows us to pierce ever more deeply the veils of unconsciousness which would have us believe that we are not wholly loved, lovable and loving.
This transmission (Deeksha in Sanskrit) is an intelligent energy, divinely tailored for each individual, helping us to change our perception of life, moving us into a more compassionate and loving space, for ourselves and others.
I use the Oneness Experience to enhance my work, helping people to release the blocks which prevent their experience of Love's Presence - together we begin to untie the knots and traumas which cause us to believe that we are not truly lovable.

Called by Love

For many years I have felt called by love, to become the mystical lover, to relax into that love that is so complete and full that nothing is left wanting. Indeed my prayer from my earliest memory was asking to be a messenger for this love. My search has taken me into the presence of many awakened beings, each perfect at the time.
I was introduced to ‘A Course in Miracles’ in the mid nineties. Jeshua/Jesus was so familiar to me and his message of forgiveness helped me to re-affirm my commitment. Then three years ago my life was thrown into a crisis of a deep personal nature, I cried out to God to help me to forgive those who were appearing to hurt me. My mind and body were torn apart with anger and jealousy.
It was at this point that my prayer was answered when I heard about a phenomenon called Deeksha or the Oneness Experience as it is now known in the West. I started to receive this energy on a regular basis, and was truly amazed by the transformation that was happening within me. The Oneness Experience is cumulative in its effects, although there was one occasion when a huge layer of anger was swept away in one session, exposing deeper layers of emotions. I felt called to go to India to become a the Oneness Experience giver, which I did in January 2007. The process took me deeply into myself, enabling me to see how thought patterns and emotional difficulties had arisen from conditioning going right back to conception through early childhood. Gradually layers of anger and grief have been replaced by a sense of peace and trust in the Beloved.
Meanwhile my commitment to Jeshua and his teaching appeared to create a new dilemma. How could I bring together his message that ‘The Only Reality is Love’ with the the Oneness Experience? My experience had been that it was like beautiful fragrant oil that had penetrated deep into my heart gently softening it, like a delicate bud waiting for the warm sunshine so it could open to reveal its full radiance. I was deeply contemplating this one evening just before giving Deeksha to a group, I asked “Show me Holy Spirit, can I continue with this, can I bring these two together?” My answer came when the radiant form of my beloved Jeshua appeared in my inner space, he placed his hands upon my head and was pouring the blessing into me. Waves of bliss engulfed me. I knew then that this was his answer - yes I could and would continue, and he would be with me, guiding me. People who regularly attended this group really felt the power of the transmission. One lady cried and said to me afterwards, “What happened tonight it was so powerful?” I was overcome with gratitude that I had been clearly shown the way forward. I could now offer the Oneness Experience in combination with Jeshua’s teachings.
There is an urgent invitation now, calling us ever deeper into our hearts, to really experience this love, this presence, which has been waiting for our return since that tiny mad idea that we are, or ever could be separate from God.
What is the the Oneness Experience (Deeksha)?
The word Deeksha is a Sanskrit word, meaning transmission of an intelligent energy, that works individually with each one of us. This energy from Source can help open our hearts, deepening our inner fulfilment, leading us to a state of oneness. It’s a global phenomenon, and people from all cultures, religions and backgrounds may receive it, as it requires no faith or belief.
This intelligent energy can help us to change our perception of life, moving us into a more compassionate and loving space; in time, enabling us to perceive the absolute truth that ‘Only Love Is Real’.
